Gain a New Self-Confidence with Ear Surgery

Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is done to improve the appearance of the ears. Candidates for such procedures usually have to be at least six years old, for that is the age when the ears stop growing. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your ears, we invite you to schedule a consultation with us to learn about how ear surgery can be used to fix the problem.

Ear pinning is the most common procedure performed during ear surgery, and it is done on patients whose ears stick out too far and/or are too large. While most patients are around six years old, adults can and do undergo the procedure.

The patient will be given general anesthesia before the surgeon performs the procedure. The surgeon will choose one of several different techniques to pin back the ears. The cartilage and skin may be removed, depending on the situation. Our surgeon will reposition the ear so that it lies closer against the head. The procedure usually takes one to two hours.

Ear pinning can be combined with ear reduction, in which the surgeon works to make disproportionately large ears a more appropriate size. The surgeon may remove excess cartilage and skin and reshape the remainder of the ear to make it look natural.

Many of our ear surgery patients comment on the fact that after the procedure, they enjoy a new sense of self-confidence. Of course, there is a recovery period, and it is important to take it as easy as possible during this time; however, after they have fully healed, they can’t believe what a different ear surgery has made in their lives.

More self-confidence leads to more opportunities in life. When you are more confident in your overall appearance, you are more likely to take advantage of everything life has to offer.
