Benefits of Nonsurgical Treatments
There are many reasons why you may not feel ready for a surgical procedure. If you are only experiencing early signs of aging, would like a more affordable treatment option or simply prefer a more minimally invasive solution, then nonsurgical procedures can most likely address your needs while delivering exceptional results. Many of our patients also choose to combine a nonsurgical treatment with facial plastic surgery for enhanced results.
You will experience a variety of benefits from choosing a nonsurgical procedure to address your aesthetic goals. These include:
- Minimal downtime
- Non-permanent, reversible results
- No incisions or sutures
- Immediate results
- More affordable than surgical options
Is BOTOX® or Dermal Fillers a Better Treatment Option?
We love performing nonsurgical treatments to rejuvenate faces, necks, and hands! If you're new to injectables, you might wonder which option would be best for you. BOTOX®, Dysport®, and dermal fillers are very popular treatment options, and there are several to choose from. We can help you determine the best way to address your cosmetic concerns, and we might suggest that you get BOTOX® and dermal fillers! This is because they work in completely different ways. BOTOX® and Dysport® are neuromodulators. This means that they target your muscles. Dermal fillers target your soft tissue. Neuromodulators work by preventing the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in muscle contraction. Without it, muscles cannot contract as strongly as they would otherwise. Muscle movement is the reason we get dynamic wrinkles like frown lines and crow's feet. Dermal fillers don't work on dynamic wrinkles nearly as well as neuromodulators. Conversely, neuromodulators don't work on wrinkles like smile lines and marionette lines.
You may be a great candidate for both BOTOX® and dermal fillers. During your consultation, we'll get to know what you're most concerned about and what you would like to improve. From there, we can map out an ideal treatment plan just for you.
How Much Downtime do I need After BOTOX® or Dermal Fillers?
One of the many benefits of injectable treatments is that there is virtually no downtime needed to recover. If you receive BOTOX®, Dysport®, or dermal filler injections, you can return to work right after your appointment. What you shouldn't do is work out, go into a hot tub or sauna, take a nap, get a massage or facial, or engage in any activity that is strenuous. These precautions are in place to help you achieve your best results with the fewest side effects. They also help prevent migration of the injected product to surrounding tissue, which could diminish the intended outcome. Post-treatment restrictions last only a few hours. By the following day, you can safely resume all of your normal activities.
Are Injectable Treatments Better than Surgery?
Injectables like BOTOX®, dermal fillers, and Kybella® offer significant benefits. That said, they do not compare to plastic surgery when it comes to the extent and longevity of results. This is why it is beneficial to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon about your desired treatment outcomes. It's easy to think that rejuvenation with injectables is ideal. It isn't ideal in every situation, but, with judicious use, injectables can achieve results that look natural. The more significant your signs of aging, the more nuanced your treatment may need to be. Dr. Zachary Farris is a double board-certified plastic surgeon with years of training and clinical experience. While surgery is his focus, he also respects the value of nonsurgical treatment options. Here, you can expect to receive factual information and an honest portrayal of what injectables may offer you.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
The number of nonsurgical treatments that you need to achieve your desired results will depend on your treatment of choice. BOTOX®, Dysport®, and dermal fillers require just one appointment to achieve noticeable results. Kybella, the injectable that is used to eliminate a double-chin, may take three to four sessions to achieve optimal results. When you consult with us, you can expect to receive all of the information you need about your best treatment options, including how long it takes to see results, how long your results should last, and how many appointments you need to accomplish your cosmetic goals.

What are some common post-treatment care tips for non-surgical procedures?
Proper aftercare helps achieve the best results and minimizes side effects. Here are some general tips:
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep skin protected from the sun with sunscreen and clothing to prevent pigmentation changes.

- Stay Hydrated: Drink water aids healing and maintaining skin elasticity.
- Apply Cold Compresses: This reduces swelling and discomfort after injectable treatments.
- Avoid Strenuous Exercise: Take it easy for 24-48 hours, as increased blood flow can exacerbate swelling.
- Keep the Treated Area Clean: Follow your provider's guidance on washing the area and applying recommended ointments.
- Use Gentle Skincare Products: Avoid harsh exfoliants or active ingredients (like retinoids) for a few days post-treatment.
- Follow-up as Recommended: Schedule necessary follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and address concerns.
Are there any lifestyle changes I should make to prolong my results?
To maximize the longevity of non-surgical cosmetic treatment results, consider these lifestyle adjustments:
- Follow a Consistent Skincare Routine: Use high-quality, dermatologist-recommended products.
- Protect Your Skin from UV Rays: Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.
- Maintain a Healthy Diet and Hydration: This supports collagen production and skin health.
- Avoid Smoking and Alcohol: Both can accelerate skin aging and compromise results.
- Stay Physically Active: Exercise improves circulation and overall skin vitality, but follow post-treatment guidelines regarding activity restrictions.
- Manage Stress: Chronic stress can negatively affect skin health, so consider relaxation techniques.
- Keep Up with Maintenance Treatments: Schedule regular touch-ups or follow-up sessions as your provider recommends.
