Double Board-Certified Surgeon
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the labia minora, the flaps of skin on either side of the vaginal opening. Enlarged or asymmetric labia minora can sometimes cause discomfort during sexual intercourse or exercise and may contribute to embarrassment when wearing a bathing suit. At Farris Plastic Surgery, our skilled plastic surgeon can help you determine whether you are a Labiaplasty candidate, and offers the latest surgical techniques. What Results Can I Expect From My Labiaplasty?
Overall, labiaplasty can achieve:
- More symmetrical labia
- Labia with optimal contours and overall appearance
- Labia that are a size and proportion you desire
- Stretched or elongated labia will be reduced for improved comfort and confidence
There are many benefits, including improved comfort while you exercise, engage in sexual activity, and while wearing a variety of clothing and underwear. You may find that chafing and irritation is reduced, and that you feel better about the way you look in yoga pants and tight leggings.
There is certainly an aspect of the results that are beneficial physically and functionally, but this extends to psychological benefits that come from feeling more at home in your body and more confident about the appearance of one of the most intimate areas of your body. Many women report feeling a dramatic improvement in generally being more active with less discomfort and self-consciousness.
Who is a candidate for labiaplasty?
Candidates for labiaplasty include healthy women over the age of 18 who are self conscious about their enlarged labia; they may have issues with discomfort during sexual intercourse or exercise or may be embarrassed when wearing tight clothing. It is increasingly popular amongst women who have gone through childbirth.
How is labiaplasty performed?
The labiaplasty procedure is a 1-2 hour operation performed under limited anesthesia. Using specialized techniques and concepts only a plastic surgeon is trained to apply, Dr. Farris will perform the labiaplasty to remove the excess tissue by strategically placing the incisions in a way that results in a well hidden scar, without disfigurement. The technique used will be customized to address your specific anatomical issue and will be explained to you thoroughly during the consultation.

What to expect after labiaplasty surgery?
Dr. Farris and his staff at Farris Plastic Surgery will provide specific instructions regarding your surgery. Your privacy and comfort is of paramount concern to us. You will be able to go home the same day after the procedure. Following surgery, you will be advised to use sanitary napkins for about 1 week and a panty girdle for compression. Most of the swelling should subside by the 2nd week. Light activity is advised after the procedure and patients usually return to work in a few days. Avoid strenuous activity or sexual intercourse for 3-4 weeks. With the results of labiaplasty, women feel more comfortable and relieved as their discomfort is addressed, sex life is improved and confidence is regained.
Patient Testimonial...
How Painful is the Labiaplasty Procedure?
"I had the best experience. Dr. Farris was extremely patient with me. He walked me through every step of my procedure. He made me feel very comfortable. I had the best recovery as well. No complications what so ever. I recommend Dr. Farris to anyone that is looking for any type of cosmetic surgery"
You will be anesthetized for the surgery itself, so you won’t experience any discomfort or pain during the procedure. As you wake up from surgery, you will feel soreness and discomfort in the vulva region. This discomfort will peak for a few days, gradually getting better and better over the course of a week. You will have discussed pain medications with Dr. Farris, and you will have options for over-the-counter pain relievers and possibly prescription pain relievers. You can further reduce discomfort by wearing loose clothing that doesn’t irritate the area and following all of the aftercare instructions. In general, labiaplasty patients tolerate post-op discomfort quite well.
Will I Lose Any Feeling After My Labiaplasty?
Permanent loss of sensation is rare. You may experience numbness after labiaplasty, but the chances are that it will be temporary and you will soon regain full sensation. It’s important to choose a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon to perform labiaplasty. By doing so, you will be reducing the risk of serious complications insofar as those complications can be linked to an unqualified or untrained practitioner.
How Long Will the Results of My Labiaplasty Last?
Labiaplasty results are long-lasting! The reshaping and resizing will last through the years. The results could be changed somewhat by future childbirth, and the natural changes associated with aging could alter the appearance of your labia somewhat. For the most part, labiaplasty patients are happy with the long-term results of the procedure.
